Builder: Grandall and Engen, Opus 111, 2021 Luther J. Melby, Opus 3, 2007 Originally Wicks, Opus 4511, 1964 Manuals: 3 Ranks: 35 Action: Wicks patented Direct Electric® Notes: See also Melby installation in 2007 for more details. In summer 2021, Grandall and Engen removed pipes and toeboards for the Great and Positiv to replace original Wicks magnets that had spent nearly a decade in storage in a barn and had rusted hinges. The ciphers that resulted from the rust were totally random, so the only clear way to fix the problem was to replace the magnets. We took the opportunity to (1) shorten the cables and use a standard color code; (2) change the very open toe voicing to closed toe; (3) replace the extremely unstable Positiv Holzregal with an all metal Musette of similar character; (4) reconfigure the Great mixture into a normal breaking mixture of 4 ranks; (5) reconfigure the Positiv Cymbal into a lower pitched Scharf III; (6) switch the Great 4' Octave (back chest) with the 4' Wald Flute (front chest) so all principals are on the front chest and all flutes are on the back chest; (7) raise cutups on Positiv Nason Gedeckt to eliminate its xylophonic effect, and replaced small wood trebles with open metal for greater tuning stability; (8) paint visible dark zinc pipes silver. |
