Notes: As the first Congregational church in the Dakota Territory – founded in 1868 – we celebrate and honor our history, but never take our eyes off God’s vision for the future and our commitment to mission and ministry in the present. Now a part of the United Church of Christ, we call ourselves the United Church of Christ (Congregational) and work hard to serve an ever-changing society, here at home and around the world. Yankton, South Dakota (population 14,700) was founded in the 1860s on the banks of the Missouri River. Yankton is a recreational mecca, a college town, a medical center, and much more. The church has always been a part of its life and mission.
