Builder: Rieger-Kloss, 2001 Wicks, Opus 3628, 1955 Manuals: 4 Ranks: 47 + 16 (Wicks) Action: Electric/slider and Wicks Direct Electric Notes: The new pipe organ was commissioned in 2001 to coincide with the construction of the Worship Center Renovation Project. The 1930s Wicks organ was rebuilt and is playable from the Rieger console. The tonal design of the organ is somewhat unusual in that it contains a keyboard division called GRAND CHOIR RESONANCE. This division is an extension of the pedal division voices. Most organs have a pedal key compass of 32 notes and manuals of 61 notes. At Saint John, the pipe ranks of the Pedal division were extended upward by 29 notes making hefty large-scaled voices found in the organ's bass division. The result of taking advantage of this historic 18th Century French practice--is being able to have what can truly be termed a monumental "cap" over the instrument's already grand ensemble! A separate portativ organ was also built by Rieger-Kloss. It is a four-rank mechanical action organ. --Information and photo from Sebastian Modarelli, Liturgical Musician. 2014 Wicks chambers are shown in the bottom picture.
