Builder: Ernest M. Skinner Co, Opus 199, 1912 Manuals: 3 Ranks: 36 Action: Electro-pneumatic Notes: This entry has caused a great deal of research because of what we believe was a misspelling of Garden as "Gordon". There is no record of a Gordon Theater, even though Skinner records indicate the name. There was great fanfare around a new Garden Theater on Hennepin, and the newspaper articles indicate a fine pipe organ with an echo division. We believe this to be the organ. From the Minneapolis newspaper, May 11, 1913: Page 1, Page 2, Page 3 The only extensions or borrows were in the pedal organ. All other stops were 61 note ranks or multiple-rank stops. The present location is unknown. The location of the theater is also unknown. -- Information from E. M. Skinner archive. THE LOCATION (building built 1908): MILO THEATER (622 Hennepin Ave. AND 16 N. 7th St. – two entrances to corner lobby) operated for 5 years. GARDEN THEATER (took over about 1912 and they remodeled for a year including the Skinner organ). Later, it became WORLD THEATER (until building was RAZED in about 2000 to make way for new parking, cafes, and Block E renovation for Hennepin Theater Trust). The orig. Shubert Theater (next door to Milo/Garden/World on N. 7th St. was actually MOVED down around the corner several blocks and now sits next to Cowles Center (Cowles was originally the Masonic Lodge). The former Shubert/Alvin/Academy) is now a dance performance space (called Goodale Theater) on Hennepin next to (and part of) Cowles Center. |
