The largest "other" part of All God's Children (AGC MCC)
organ is a Morton which used to be out in Lilydale, at Diamond Jim's
supper club. It suffered a catastrophic accident one night when the
stage manager had a "snoot full." The console at Diamond Jims was in
a pit under the stage with a motorized cover over it, with
open-close buttons for the cover and up and down buttons for the
life at the stage managers station. SO, he played a bit. Open the
cover, up with console, down with console, close the door, and well,
you might be able to see where this path leads. It was a 4 rank
Morton, and LOLTOS pulled it out. The MCC organ (as we call it) was
began to be installed in the late 80s, almost concurrent with the
Save the organ campaign at the auditorium. James and I actually
finished "tweaking" that organ a few years ago, and now we are
afraid that the winds are changing there, and we might have to pull
it out. At the time of the original installation of the AGC MCC organ, the MIA 7 rank Wurlitzer was intact and was in a home in Hudson. I can never remember the name of the evangelist temple on east lake street it came from, but it went back quite a way. the story is that the chamber was built using Wurlitzer packing crates. Many of the Wurlitzer parts at AGC MCC are from the radio station KDKA organ, although not so much the pipework. [ED. I THINK ED IS REFERRING TO THE RIVER-LAKE CHURCH, NO LONGER THERE, ON E. LAKE/RIVER ROAD, MINNEAPOLIS SIDE) The AGC MCC organ has a Kimball Tuba 16' (1-12) running into a Morton trumpet, a Barton 16' Bourdon, which runs into a Wurlitzer concert flute, which turns into a Kimball harmonic concert flute (wood), Wurlitzer Vox, Morton tibia, Kimball oboe horn, Moller Marimba, and a host of other things in the 12 ranks. -- Notes from Ed Copland |
