Trinity Lutheran Church

511 South Fifth Street
St. Peter, MN 56082

Builder: M.P. Möller Organ Co., Op. 10722, 1972.
Manuals: 2
Ranks: 6
Action: Electro-pneumatic

Notes: Moller 1972 was installed as a result of the church's fondness for Moller ca. 1900, which had served them well for a very long time. Moller 10722 consisted of 6 ranks, installed just outside the chancel on the right side of the church where the previous Moller had been. The Swell was on the floor with the Great above.

From David Engen: I played this organ for a number of services and weddings while I was organist at First Lutheran. In my opinion, the voicing was uniformly ugly. There wasn't a single beautiful voice. Because of the unification it was a difficult organ for leading congregational hymns -- it suffered the "missing pipe" effect. The barrel vault and placement of the 16' Bourdon directly under the vault caused both "hot spots" for bass and dead spots within the seating area, leading to consternation on the part of the listeners. When the congregation decided to tear down the old building and build new, they were advised by one party they could only move the old organ intact, and by another party that the organ could not be moved. I was engaged as consultant, showed the committee the problems with the old organ, and told them that all of its components could readily be recycled in a new configuration that would solve the problems. I presented them with three possible specifications, and they selected the largest option.

Please see Trinity Lutheran -- Hoppe organ for a continuation of the story.
