Welcome to The Organ List
Over many years, Richard Greene assembled a comprehensive list of over 2100 organs in the Midwest. This list documents the presence of instruments of all sizes, whether extant or not. Where available, each entry includes the stoplist and pictures. This is truly a remarkable resource which many of us use on a regular basis.
In this site you will find organ specifications, pictures, historical and other information about most of the churches, residences, colleges and universities with organs in Minnesota and in our neighboring states where such information has been provided.
From either the links at the top or at the left side you may select a state. On the following page you will find an alphabetical list of cities and churches/schools/individuals. You may wish to use the "Find" feature of your browser.
We hope you enjoy the list and are able to find information you seek. Please help us maintain the list by reporting any errors or changes you may find. If you have information that is not on the list, please send it. You may use the "Contact" link on the left. We also report this information to the Organ Historical Society. If not otherwise noted, pictures are in the public domain and were copied from Facebook, the church's websites, or from a Google search.
In January of 2015 Dick retired from maintaining this list and I took over. The organization and appearance are changing slightly due to a software conversion. Support for some of the software used to create these pages was discontinued by the vendor, so it was necessary to convert it to a different platform. Conversion was completed in 2021. We now document about 3850 organs in the 5-state area.
