Builder: Aeolian-Skinner, Opus 1509, 1968 Robert L. Sipe Manuals: 3 Ranks: 52 Action: Mechanical key/electric stop Notes: Installed late summer, 1970. The organ was originally designed by Robert Sipe and built mostly by Laukhuff. While it was being built, Sipe became head of the tracker division at Aeolian-Skinner. Horizontal trumpet and chest are A/S. Shortly before the scheduled dedication recital by Robert Anderson, organist/consultant Merrill Davis decided the Great flutes were not what he wanted. The 8' Rohrflute was discarded except for notes 1-6. New Spitzflute pipes were acquired from Aeolian-Skinner for notes 7-13, and the 4' Spitzflute was rescaled by one pipe and moved down to become 8' Spitzflute, notes 14-61. The 4' was in turn replaced with new A/S Nachthorn pipes from two ranks. One covers notes 1-13 and another A/S Nachthorn, rescaled by 1 pipe, is the remainder. A new 2' Spillflute was also acquire from A/S. Beginning after Easter, 2022, the organ will be partially disassembled for cleaning and restoration by Grandall & Engen as part of extensive 50-year building renovations. David Engen, David Grandall and Jeff Daehn have known and cared for this organ since its installation in 1970. Merrill N. Davis III was organist/consultant. Dedication program played by Robert Anderson of SMU. In the weeks before and after he made recordings in the Aeolian-Skinner recordings series. The week following dedication pews were removed, so that recording has considerably more reverberation than the first.
