Builder: Schantz Organ Co., Op. 297, 1957. Relocated by
Hoppe Organ Co. in 2016. Manuals: 3 Ranks: 26 Stops: 22 Pipes: 1552 Action: Electro-pneumatic Notes: The organ has a very asymmetrical and Holtkamp-esque appearance with the Pedal at the extreme left, the Great at center/left, the Swell enclosure at center/right, and the Positiv to the far right. Notes from Rob Hoppe: The Schantz/Holtkamp organ had two separate installations on the campus of Bowling Green State University (Ohio). First was a concert hall within an older building. Then it was moved to the "new" music building (1970s) and installed in a small concert hall there...Due to downsizing, etc., the university listed the Schantz/Holtkamp for sale, and St. Michael's-Duluth bought it. St. Michael's THEN hired me, and flew me out to Ohio to make sense of things! Fortunately, they had an ample and realistic budget to address everything that needed to be done. The original chests, minimally, would have requires releathering. Since nothing would have fit properly in the new setting, and no satisfactory visual design could be had (everything was asymmetrical), the decision was made to install with all new chests and layout, which I designed as a symmetrical Holtkamp-ish knock-off. The site at St. Michael's was modified at great expense to fit the organ. Front wall was moved forward to expand the ambulatory as well as the deck area above, including creating a swell chamber behind the reredos. New chests, pipe cleaning, reconditioning by A. R.
